You can create a custom Codex desktop theme from any image you own without editing CSS or modifying the official Codex installation. Install the open-source GptSkin Skill, attach a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image, and ask Codex to build and apply a Daily theme.
If you do not have an image yet, describe the visual you want in Codex first. Codex can create the source image with your own OpenAI account; GptSkin then compiles that finished image into the theme. GptSkin itself does not run an image-generation model.
The Shortest Path

A useful theme is more than a wallpaper. GptSkin treats the image as a design source and translates it into a coordinated interface:

Start from a Prompt
If you only have an idea, ask Codex to create the source visual first:
Create a quiet blue-hour landscape with a clean horizon, soft indigo light, and enough negative space for a coding interface. Then use GptSkin to turn it into a Daily Codex theme and apply it.
This is still the same image-backed workflow. The image is created under your own OpenAI account, saved locally, and then passed to GptSkin. The GptSkin service only compiles the finished image into a theme package.
Daily or Showcase?
Choose Daily for normal work. It prioritizes text contrast, stable panels, restrained decoration, and lower visual intensity.
Choose Showcase when you want a stronger visual statement for a demo, stream, screenshot, or launch video. It can use more image presence and expressive accents, but should still protect the main controls.
When in doubt, ask for Daily. You can always build a more expressive version later.
Is It Safe?
GptSkin applies the theme at runtime through a loopback-only Chrome DevTools Protocol connection bound to 127.0.0.1. It does not patch app.asar, replace the Codex binary, change code signatures, alter your API key, or read your conversations.
